Strategic Planning: An organization without a strategic plan is like a football team without a play book. No matter how much talent you have on the team, you need to know what to do, when to do it, and why it needs to be done. You need a well developed vision and mission statement. How you develop these statements is as important as the statements themselves. Often an outside facilitator can make sure that the statements are developed in a manner that promotes buy-in from all parties. Do you have a plan to execute the strategy? How and when will you know if the plan is on schedule? Identifying strategic indicators as well as individual responsibilities are just two critical aspects of a strategic plan. Even if you have a plan, you still must continually look at how to make the plan better. You must consider the people, processes, and technologies that you have exposed to your team and continually optimize your plan to reflect these considerations.
The key to success is to create a vision of who you want to be, and then picture it as if it has already happened.
